From Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP to Reese Witherspoon’s baby food diet, there’s a ton of out of the ordinary things that celebs do to drop a few pounds. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve highly considered attempting a few of them! Here are some of the more popular ones, and suggested ways to edit them to work for you!

1. The Apple Cider Vinegar Diet: Megan Fox

According to Fox, she drinks ACV before every meal as a way to limit the number of calories her body absorbs. Quite a few health experts have even come forward saying ACV is the way to go to aid digestion, detox the body, and even boost metabolism. Although, drinking it with every meal could have negative effects in the long run, many experts suggest taking a tablespoon of ACV mixed with water every morning.

2. The Lemonade Diet: Beyoncé

Back in 2006, before lemonade was Lemonade, Beyoncé took on the daunting task of having to lose 20 pounds in two weeks for her role in Dreamgirls. She allegedly was on a liquid diet consisting of a mix of water, lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper for the entire two weeks. This can be a very destructive way to lose weight, and often times, people who do this gain the weight back, plus some! If you’re still dying to try this one out, maybe try swapping just one meal a day for the concoction. And remember, this is not a long term remedy to weight loss, just a way to jump start your diet.

3. Waist Trainers: The Kardashians

Popularized by the Kardashian clan, waist trainers, aka: corsets, have been brought back from the 18th century as a way of achieving an hourglass figure. While everyone from the Kardashians to Jessica Alba have touted their success with the trainers, most people don’t realize that waist trainers are essentially only an addition to a diet and exercise plan. Plus, experts say you must first build up your core for at least 2 weeks before beginning waist training. Once you start waist training, you need to continue building your core, otherwise, you risk atrophying your core muscles when you stop waist training. If you decide you want to try this trend, check out websites like Hourglass Angel who give you full instructions on how to start waist training. Make sure to follow every step, and don’t skimp on the core workouts!

4. The 7-Day Color Diet: Christina Aguilera

Doctors say your food should follow the colors of the rainbow, but Christina Aguilera took this advice to a new level. A diet lasting 7 days where each day of the week you only eat natural foods of the same color. Meaning, day one is white food (eggs, cauliflower, potato), day two is red (watermelon, tomatoes, pink grapefruit), and so on and so forth. Since there isn’t a brown or black day, you won’t be eating any meat. This is actually a fairly easy diet to follow and can act as a good way to detox your body before starting a more sustainable, healthy, long term diet. Especially since you wont be eating anything processed which means cutting down on a lot of carbs, sugar, and starches.

5. Five Hands Diet: Victoria Beckham

After having her daughter, Posh needed to get back into shape and did so through a pretty simple diet. It involves having just 5 palm-sized portions of high protein items (scrambled eggs, nuts, smoked salmon) a day while also drinking lots of water and snacking on green vegetables. While I’m not sure how long this diet lasted for her, this is probably not the most sustainable option, especially for people who have normal, busy, lives. This could however be a good way to jumpstart a long term healthy eating plan and lower your cravings for unhealthy foods by committing to just a few days using this method.

In the end, we have to remember that celebrities usually have the time and resources available to make these diets more successful – a personal trainer, dietician, etc. So don’t beat yourself up if you can’t stick to the diet variations suggested above. The idea is to get yourself into a habit of eating healthy and limiting the amount of starch, sugar, and processed foods you eat. Just take it one day at a time!

Please be advised that suggestions are based on personal experiences and are by no means medical advice. Consult with your physician before beginning any sort of new diet plan.
